Imran Khan, a name that once echoed through cricket stadiums, has become one of Pakistan’s most prominent political figures. Born on October 5, 1952, Khan shot to fame as a cricketer, captaining Pakistan’s national team and securing a historic victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.
This win made him a national hero, but it was only the beginning of his journey.
After retiring from cricket, Khan set his sights on a different field—politics. In 1996, he founded the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with a mission to fight corruption, promote social justice, and uplift the country’s poor. For years, his party struggled to gain widespread support, with Khan often seen as an outsider in the political arena.
However, his determination and commitment to his ideals slowly gained him a loyal following, particularly among the youth and middle class who were frustrated with the country's entrenched political dynasties.
In 2018, after two decades of hard work, Khan’s PTI won the general elections, and he became the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
His campaign promised the creation of a "Naya Pakistan"—a new, reformed Pakistan with better governance, economic stability, and reduced corruption. During his tenure, Khan's government focused on economic reforms, anti-corruption efforts, and rebalancing Pakistan’s foreign relations, especially with countries like China, the U.S., and India.
However, his time in office was far from smooth. He faced fierce political opposition, economic crises, and criticism over his handling of inflation and governance issues. In April 2022, his tenure came to an abrupt end when he was ousted through a no-confidence vote in parliament. Despite this, Khan remains a powerful figure in Pakistan’s politics. His charisma, populist appeal, and connection with the youth continue to keep him at the center of the country's political discourse.
Today, Imran Khan's legacy is a blend of his cricketing achievements and his political journey. For many, he embodies the hope of change, while others view his time in office as a period of unfulfilled promises. Either way, Imran Khan’s impact on Pakistan’s political and social landscape is undeniable, and his story is far from over.
